Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration is a common eye condition that affects the central part of the retina, called the macula. It causes a loss of vision in the center of the visual field, making it difficult to read, recognize faces, or perform other daily activities. There are two types of macular degeneration: dry and wet. Dry macular degeneration is more common and progresses slowly, while wet macular degeneration is less common but progresses quickly and can cause severe vision loss. Risk factors for macular degeneration include age, genetics, smoking, and high blood pressure.
Diabetic Related Eye Exams
Diabetic-related eye exams are crucial for individuals with diabetes. High blood sugar levels can damage blood vessels in the eyes, leading to diabetic retinopathy, a condition that can cause blindness. It is recommended that individuals with diabetes receive a comprehensive eye exam at least once a year. During the exam, your eye doctor will dilate the pupils and examine the retina for any signs of damage. Early detection and treatment can prevent or slow down the progression of diabetic retinopathy.
